Kanye West Performs Lucrative Private Gig For President Of Kazak

President to Turkmenistan dictator Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov this summer. Once outed, she apologized, but did not give money back or hand it over to nonprofit groups that help victims of the rights-abusing regimes. Nazarbayev is widely viewed as a corrupt dictator who has siphoned off much of his nations oil wealth for himself and his regime-propping, human-rights-abusing cronies. West performed at the Hotel Royal Tulip in Almaty, a picturesque city featured in Sacha Baron Cohens 2006 political satire, Borat. Almaty is a former provincial capital that is now filled with representatives from multinational companies in the oil and gas business.
Source: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/kanye_kazakh_cash_in_yF5r3mPWs6NTTFiu0fRHEM

The Stronger hitmaker reportedly netted $3 million (2 million) for playing a private gig in a hotel in Almaty for President Nursultan Nazarbayev on Saturday. Footage of West performing his song Can't Tell Me Nothing at the family wedding has surfaced online and infuriated activists, who accuse billionaire Nazarbayev of acts of torture against his own people. Kate Allen of Amnesty International says, "Kazakhstan is a country where Amnesty has concerns about the use of torture." Critics of the Kazakh government are jailed and strict controls are imposed on the media, according to monitoring organisation Human Rights Watch. French Bakers Chide Kanye West in Hilarious Letter

A video shot by people attending the private concert appeared on Instagram and can be seen below. It shows West performing 'Can't Tell Me Nothing' during his set. Zazarbeyev is a controversial figure in politics, with allegations of corruption dogging the Kazakh leader. In 2011, Sting pulled out of an arranged concert for the president over claims of human rights violations on oil workers in the country.
Source: http://www.nme.com/news/kanye-west/72401

David Marx. Correction: The letter addressed to West was actually written as a parody by writer W. David Marx and posted to Medium.com on Aug. 13. The Association of French Bakers does not exist.
